Andrew Simpson Foundation - We’re delighted to announce that Rob Clark has joined the team as our new Chief Operations Officer. Building upon his vast experience, most recently as Director of Sport Development at the Royal Yachting Association, Rob will provide strategic oversight of operations across ASF, Andrew Simpson Centres, Horizons Plymouth - Community and Portsmouth Sail Training Trust. “I had the opportunity to meet Andrew on a number of occasions through my own sailing. Each time I was struck by his passion for the sport of sailing, his humility, honesty, desire to give back and an ability to remember and relate to the people he encountered. These are characteristics that I share and value immensely and am really excited to join the team at ASF, working in an environment where we are all motivated to make a difference and support people to connect to sailing and realise their ambitions on the water.” Learn more about Rob and his role in our latest news story. https://andrewsimpsonfoundation.org/introducing-our-new.../

What event will you be joining?
RYA Race Officials - EUROSAF Race Officials Exchange Programme 2026 - This scheme is open to all clubs, classes, and events in the UK, and to all GBR National and International race officials. Through the scheme, officials are partnered with events in other European nations to build experience, establish networks, and share knowledge. Applications for officials to access a European placement for their own development will open later in the year. Today, we are writing for your help in sharing this information and the link below to build a list of placements in the UK we can offer to host officials from Europe. The more spaces we can offer through the scheme, the more likely we are to access places for our own officials through the exchange. This link contains information about the terms of the exchange and a space to enter information about placements. All events are welcome to be a part of it, big or small. But what's in it for us? It's a good question. Hosting a visitor through the scheme brings with it a fresh perspective on your events, builds connections, and can bring new skills to an event that can support the development of local volunteers. It is also a way of accessing officials with specific qualifications that you may need for your event. https://www.cognitoforms.com/RYA2/EUROSAF2026 If you have any questions, please contact Tom Rusbridge on rusbridge.tom@gmail.com
Scuttlebut Sailing - Dave Perry’s 100 Best Racing Quizzes - highlights specific aspects of the racing rules in a fun format designed to help you become more familiar with The Racing Rules of Sailing. Here is one of the quizzes:

SO (on starboard tack) and PI (on port tack) are approaching the
finishing line on a collision course. SO reaches the zone of the
finishing mark first and hails, “Starboard!” PI hails, “Room!”
When right at the mark, PI begins to gybe inside of SO and SO is
forced to bear away to avoid hitting PI. SO protests PI.
You are on the protest committee...how would you decide this? Click here for answer.

RYA Network:
Replacing the current Training Support Site, RYA Network is your new go-to professional hub. Designed exclusively for recognised training centres, instructors, affiliates, clubs, and volunteers, it’s your one stop shop for information, resources, guidance, and advice.
Whilst most of the forms still live in Document Finder, remaining restricted for Instructors and above, some specialist forms have been moved to dedicated pages for Trainers, Inspectors, Examiners and SRC Assessors. As always, you will need to be logged into your MyRYA account to access these.
Online Area for Certificates: Anyone with a MyRYA account will be able to view their RYA registered certificates in one place and easily share them with employers or charter companies. Members will also be able to upload any unregistered RYA certificates, ensuring they’re all stored together in a single location.
Getting Started - Before you dive in, here’s a quick reminder to help you get started:
If you have an existing MyRYA account: You’ll be prompted to change your password the first time you log in - this is for security reasons.
If you do not have a MyRYA login or you’ve not logged in within the last two years: The new website will guide you through the process of creating a new MyRYA account.
Training Courses: Although the site is now live, we still recommend pausing certificate registrations until 09:00 BST tomorrow (Thursday, 11 September). This allows a little extra time to ensure everything has transitioned smoothly, avoiding the need to re-register.

RYA - As we approach our official 150th anniversary on 17 November, we were honoured that our President, HRH The Princess Royal, generously gave her time to be interviewed for the magazine. You can read the interview on p.20. This issue highlights how the RYA has continually progressed and evolved. From the start, we’ve been committed to representing our members, while our worldwide training schemes have helped individual boaters achieve their ambitions, and RYA-affiliated clubs and centres have brought boating and watersports into their local communities. We hope you enjoy this celebratory issue. https://content.yudu.com/web/1oc76/0A1qulm/ryaautumn2025/html/index.html
