RYA - Celebrating our volunteers! The Francis Elkin Award - Brian Stanley - Wealden Sailability. Brian received the Francis Elkin Award for his exceptional dedication. Since founding the organisation in 2008, he's expanded it into a leading UK Sailability group, offering sailing and training to individuals with disabilities. Brian explained: “The Sailability programme is absolutely brilliant because there are so many people that are disadvantaged or who have disabilities. The big advantage is that no matter how disabled they are they can get sailing.” “There are lots clubs and people that are giving so much time to so many other people that are not normally recognised. I think that it is absolutely terrific that they can be presented with an award. It means a lot and makes them very happy.”

RNLI - In 2024, the RNLI will have been saving lives for 200 years - and we’re inviting all Clubs to get out on the water in 2024 to celebrate with us. Events are planned throughout the year to mark this milestone and we hope you’ll enjoy creating an RNLI 200 sail event of your own. All types of boats are welcome, of any vintage and in any location - coastal or inland. Organise a yacht or dinghy race, parade of sail, cruise in company, link up with other clubs for a joint event, or plan a family sailing day with a picnic - it’s entirely up to you. All we ask is that you show your support for lifeboat crews and our drowning prevention work, by raising lifesaving funds to ensure we can be there for generations of sailors to come. Now’s the time to get a special sailing event in your club calendar and let us know. Once you’ve signed up to host an event, a fundraising pack will be sent to you closer to the date of the event. You’ll also be the first to hear about RNLI 200 branded sailing products and other RNLI 200 sailing events near you. Help us save every one by joining us to celebrate 200 years and counting. RYA - Celebrating our volunteers! Outstanding Contribution Award. Lisa Woodward - Staunton Harold Sailing Club. Lisa is a Trustee and Secretary for the clubs Sailability section, managing governance, media, and community ties. Having first been introduced to the trust through a friend at work, she went down one day to see what it was all about, the rest is history! Lisa explains about the value of volunteers: “It’s important to get involved because if there weren’t volunteers then lots of things just wouldn’t happen. Staunton Harold Sailing Club is run purely by volunteers, people do it because they want to, they want to make a difference. When you see the children’s smiles on their faces when they are out on the water with the wind on their face, or laughing with a volunteer, that’s why I do it”.
