RYA - Inland Helmsman Course - Growing up in the Midlands with canals as a backdrop, Ali Selby-Nicholls’ family owned a boat-hire company. Venturing onto the UK’s magical network of waterways, there is so much wildlife to spot. “You’re in a completely silent environment and you see so many things that you wouldn’t see from noisier, faster boats.” If you’re interested in the history around the transport and why and how the canals were built, Ali suggests trying it out! “It’s fascinating to lots of people, and quite often it’s that that really draws them to canals, rather than just driving a boat.” “Find a training centre and start having a conversation, then book yourself on an Inland Helmsman course. And then you can go on different holidays, try different bits of canal, hire boats…” Get started today - http://rya.org/x3NQ50QYQ8f

RYA - Seagrass Restoration - It has been nearly 4-years since the RYA became a partner in the LIFE Recreation Remedies seagrass restoration project. The landmark project focusses on the restoration of seagrass habitats in the south of England. Research shows that at least 44% of the UK's seagrass has been lost since 1936, and we are working to change that. Our role within the project is to work closely with clubs, centres, and RYA instructors to educate boaters on the most sustainable methods of anchoring and mooring, helping to preserve and restore important seabed habitats.
