RYA & RA Sailability FB - I came home and said to my kids, “I want to learn to sail,” and they laughed and said, “You can’t brush your hair in the morning, how are you going to learn to sail?” Phil Monk has always been active, running up and down mountains for fun. But when his collagen (the elastic tissue that holds everything together) became faulty, it made movement painful, so he stopped. That’s when he found sailing at Whitefriars Sailability. At the time, I didn’t know my jib sheet from my tiller or anything like that. But I knew straight away, I loved being on the water.” The boat kind of just gave the freedom, and for me, it takes away the pain. Sailing saved my life.”

RYA South FB - A great day had by all at the Regional Instructor Training Day (Chichester) on Saturday at Hayling Island SC (HISC). Lots of activity happening on the water with sessions including single handed sailing, race sessions, powerboat skills development. Also some great on shore discussions on learning from accidents / incidents, a person centred approach to session delivery and new ideas for RTC in-house staff / instructor training and CPD.

RYA FB – Handy packing guide - If you’re lucky enough to be off on a sailing holiday this summer, check what comes on board with your charter company before you start packing. Many companies will have a full list on their website, covering everything from sailing kit to equipment. Hard sided suitcases are difficult to stow away so you’ll want to opt for soft sided duffel bags instead, and smaller waterproof drybags are useful for trips off the boat and travelling from the yacht to the shore or marina. Check out our handy packing guide to ensure you don’t forget the essentials. http://rya.org/oaV550VIVQ8

RYA FB - British Sailing Team duo Anna and John scoop a second springtime grand slam! The pair have topped the Nacra 17 podium twice this April, at both the Princess Sofia Regatta and French Olympic Week. With a strong start to the season in the bag it looks as though the pair are building strong, a welcome trend following news that the pair will campaign for one more Olympic cycle. What a way to kick off the season - Congratulations Anna and John!

RYA FB - In just one year, the Clean Water Sports Alliance (CWSA) has grown from seven founding sports to a national movement of 11, united by one clear aim: clean, heathy, nature-rich waters for all. With policy wins, national awards, and determined advocacy, we’ll continue to ensure that the voices of millions of recreational water users will be heard at every level, from government to industry. RYA FB - Sailing is in my blood.” After working abroad for three years, Jen Miller returned to run a sailing school in Devon as a dinghy trainer and is now a powerboat trainer in the East. I’m so passionate about this sport and what I do and what I've achieved in it. I want to spread that passion to other women in the sport. Nothing holds them back if they don't want it to.” If you’re curious about powerboating or sailing but you're unsure, being in an all-women’s environment can give you the supportive environment you need to learn something new.
